Dev diary: road to Beta 3

🛠️ Dev Diary 15/07: Inside the Forge with Ignace

🔧 What did we work on this month?

The editor mode is nearly feature-complete! The last major component still in the works is encounters, but the rest of the core tools are now functioning in this mode. From map placement to the codex, most of the heavy lifting is now possible directly inside the editor. It's a major milestone that sets the stage for everything that comes next.

🎉 One satisfying win this month:

Entities placed in the editor can now be fully customized and made unique from their original templates. That means if you drop a merchant into your world, you can tweak their backstory, stats, or flavor to fit one campaign without affecting the base entity you started from. It’s a subtle but powerful upgrade—flexibility without chaos.

🌀 Here’s a peek at something still cooking:

We’ve mostly been heads-down refining the UI and tying up loose ends in editor mode, so nothing experimental this time—but things are about to get a lot more interesting. Once play mode kicks off, expect a burst of new ideas and systems to emerge as we define how actual sessions will run inside the tool.

We have also been working on different sorts of entities to place within the codex. So things like spells or even scene change markers could become custom entities you can personally add to your codex.

🐛 Something tricky you’re wrangling:

No major dragons to slay this month—it’s been more about the slow grind of finishing than fighting any specific bug. There’s a lot of polish and detail work that takes time but is crucial to getting the editor where it needs to be.

👀 One thing you’re excited to share soon:

Play mode is coming. Soon you’ll be able to actually run games using your Realm. We’ll be starting with the foundational systems and moving toward features like combat and initiative tracking. This is where the tool starts to come alive.

Soon play mode will join edit mode!

🎶 what snack or music kept you going this month?

Fuel of choice: pretzels, in all their salty, crunchy glory.
And for soundscapes? Still spinning a steady stream of ambient soundtracks—perfect for entering the dev trance.
